“What originally attracted me to Greenpoint was the sense of loneliness and open space even so close to Manhattan itself, just across the river. I wanted to capture the vestiges of that desolate industrial wasteland, framed by the glittering jewels of Manhattan skyscrapers, before the neighborhood changes beyond recognition.

I also dislike the stereotype of watercolor as being inherently “bright, cheerful, and airy,” and deliberately sought out these weatherbeaten surfaces and weighty forms, and dreamt up the moodiest lighting conditions to help bring out my emotional experience of having called Greenpoint home for nearly 30 years now.”
